National Certificate Hospitality and Catering Services N4-N6

Purpose of Qualification

The programme progresses through three levels. Each N level takes place over one semester. After each semester, students are eligible for a National Certificate on that level. We recommend continuing through all three levels in order to qualify for the National Diploma. The National Diploma requires students to work for 18 months at a Hospitality and Catering Industry before they are entitled to receive a National Diploma.

Learning Outcomes

  • Equips the student with basic food service techniques, teaching them basic and complex skills needed to run a successful hotel, restaurant or guesthouse

  • Catering Theory prepares the student with applicable knowledge of all the different food types, preparation techniques and current food trends in the industry. Catering Practical enables the student to practically apply all the theory taught

  • Studies the disciplines of communication, motivation and self-image. Human Relations provides background to the management of staff

National Diploma: Hospitality and Catering

Completion of National Certificates: Hospitality and Catering Services N4, N5 and N6 as above, plus 18 months of practical experience in a workplace shall result in the award of a National Diploma: Hospitality and Catering Services (NQF Level 6)
